iPhone Finally gets an SDK

with 3 comments

Apple SDK

So finally the much-anticipated iPhone / iPod touch SDK (Software Development Kit) is released, this will start third-party development for these devices. Developers will have access to the same “Cocoa Touch” framework and all other APIs used by Apple for iPhone software development apart from this they will have access to hardware-accelerated 3D graphics, location-enabled applications and full access to all the media capabilities of the iPhone. The iPhone dev center is there for what every you may need along with an Application distribution System for iPhone which has a revenue sharing scheme of 70:30 and also hosting for free applications. I am seriously waiting for iPhone to get released in India and from what i have heard it will be Reliance with the iPhone………….. any comments???

Silverlight comming to Nokia Phones

with 3 comments

Silverlight                Nokia E61i

Nokia announced to make Silverlight the Flash alternative being pushed by Microsoft, avaliable for Symbian S60, S40 and Internet Tablet Devices, which will be available by the year end. it means people with Nokia Devices will be able to see content, notably video, written for Silverlight.

“This is an important relationship on so many levels. Working with Nokia means we are easily able to reach a huge number of mobile users, including customers of all S60 licensees. This is a significant step in gaining broad acceptance for Silverlight and ensuring it is platform agnostic. This is critical since we want to make sure developers and designers don’t have to constantly recreate the wheel and build different versions of applications and services for multiple operating systems, browsers and platforms,” said S. Somasegar, Senior Vice President of Microsoft’s Developer Division.

I certainly dont know what gonna happen but i think Microsoft is just trying hard to make Silverlight appealing to developers by making it available on a large number of platforms as different edditions for Windows, Mac, Linux and cell phones. All the main features of Silverlight, including video and interactive Web application development, will be included in all mobile versions.

Enabling Wifi on Lenovo R60 in Linux

with one comment

So yesterday after hunting for the solution of the wifi problem in Lenovo R60 so quite sometime i finally decided to try DJays solution to build Madwifi and it worked like a charm. I was thinking that there will be a total Open Source solution of the problem but well i just hope that ath5k will replace madwifi soon, anyway here is something about MadWifi

MadWifi is one of the most advanced WLAN drivers available for Linux today. It is stable and has an established userbase. The driver itself is open source but depends on the proprietary Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) that is available in binary form only.

Ok so lets start, first you need to download the source of Madwifi, go to http://madwifi.org/wiki/UserDocs/GettingMadwifi and download tar.gz source package, extract it now open a terminal and login as root by typing su or sudo -i, then goto the madwifi directory and type
cd scripts
./find-madwifi-modules.sh $(uname -r)
cd ..

now you are ready to compile
make
now to install type
make install
Now load the module
/sbin/modprobe ath_pci
now you can easily connect to the net on your Lenovo R60 lappy
To enable the wifi led just edit /etc/sysctl.conf, type
gedit /etc/sysctl.conf
and add this at the end of the file and save
dev.wifi0.ledpin=1
dev.wifi0.softled=1

reboot and thats it enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
